more stuff and opportunities

I knew if I stayed in Detroit long enough things would start to happen, and I would be in on the action! Detroit's artistic community and spirit is alive and well! We are the perfect blank slate, where opportunities are being born out of necessity. I think for once the people may have the power, and It feels like a renaissance of sorts!

I'm super excited about the use of the huge space that has been laying vacant for way too long! The old Old Navy building on the corner of 9 mile and Woodward, is being turned into an "artist and vintage market" called The Rust Belt Market! I'm so glad the dumb facebook petition to get an H & M in that spot never happened! I voiced my negative opinion on that loud and clear.

I'll be setting up my "pop up shop" at The Rust Belt Market opening weekend May 7th and 8th, and hope to see ya'll there!

Been awhile...

Boy... It's been awhile since I started this blog and look... I didn't even follow my own advice! I kind of let fear (and laziness) get in the way of being proactive about this blog. Also, I don't really like the look of it, and I'm kind of computer illiterate! Well it's been a cruel hard winter... and I'm looking forward to the spring when things will blossom with new life and possibilities! Meanwhile I'll try to keep posting and just figure it out as I go, pretty much like everything else I've done!

Excited and scared...

Isn't that how it usually goes when venturing into the unknown? It seems as if my whole life has been a series of excited but afraid. And even though I've had both successes and failures, mostly failures, I still keep plugging along. This is my first post of my first blog, and boy do I have a lot of catching up to do! I spent this weekend in Detroit at the Russell Industrial Center's People's Art Festival, exhibiting and selling my hand dyed vintage clothing and lingerie line Dolly Rocker's Vintage And Hand Made. And although I've sold this line successfully in the past, I was counting on this show to make my rent... and this being my first PAF, I really didn't know how I'd be received. Talk about nerve racking! Ironically, I ended up making just enough for rent! It was the artist set up next to me first show ever! She told me how she cried the whole day before, and didn't think she could show up and display her work for fear of total failure and rejection... she ended up selling out! So, it just goes to show you that you can't and shouldn't let fear of failure hold you back... That being said, I hope you enjoy my blog. I'm just getting started...
